Statement

A foundation of my work is meditation. Blind contour drawing is one way I get into the flow state.  I revel in recording my perception and delight in seeing what appears without the control of conscious construction.  Unforeseen outcomes keep me coming back.  Observing the action of pigments swirl and dry keeps me captivated.  Oh the joy of cranking an etching press, peeling the page away from a plate and seeing an image reverse itself- even better if layers of images interact in new ways. I enjoy mindful intervention and playing with formal concerns. My work is a dialogue with idols and peers. My practice connects art history, the interaction of materials and the pleasure of being human.
